Underbelly sits ambiguously between animal, human and domestic furniture. Beneath its tufted burgundy surface, pointed forms push through at irregular heights and positions, as though something is moving underneath the skin. The elongated body recalls the underside of a sow, and in the same instant, its two spindly wooden legs give it an almost human stance.

Colony is made from beeswax collected over several years from a friend's farm, whose hives were destroyed in 2024 as part of the biosecurity response to the varroa mite outbreak. Wax drawn across different seasons and pollen sources carries its own colour, marbling naturally through the work as a record of time the bees can no longer keep. Long tapered spikes of uneven length descend from the wax mass, and the sculpture balances precariously on three pointed legs, like a otherworldly organism. Made in the wake of the colony's loss, the work is a tribute to the bees and a reflection on the vulnerability of our ecosystem.
